![]() My skin care regimen. My skin is extremely sensitive and there is no other way to express this. It took many years for me to find a product that works well for me; a product that leaves my face feeling clean and hydrated. I have watched many product reviews on YouTube, but whenever someone is reviewing a product and talking about how great a product worked for their face, the majority of the time they are wearing makeup. It leaves me to question how honest are these reviews. Makeup is great and fun, I have an entire closet just for my makeup but it is also my worst enemy. I have noticed over the years that when I apply products to my face whether it be makeup or moisturizer that in a matter of hours a pimple or two will emerge. I started using Shea Moisture shampoos and conditioners in 2009 and at some point I realized that their brand extended far beyond hair products. I admire that Shea Moisture products do not contain parabens, phthalates paraffin, propylene glycol, fragrances, synthetic color, sulfates, DEA, and mineral oil. And there is no animal testing involved. The story of Sofi Tucker selling Shea Nuts at the village market in Bonthe, Sierra Leone in 1912 is how it all began for Shea Moisture. I am very conscious about what I put into my body and seeing that one of the functions of the skin is to filter out toxins, I am not surprised that my skin reacts the way that it does to certain products. A few years ago I made a commitment to my skin, to treat "her" better. I began using coconut oil after pulling up some information on the benefits of coconut oil via the internet. I choose to use organic, unrefined virgin coconut oil and I apply it to my face before bed. Despite having naturally oily skin, I have noticed that whether it is during the humid summer months or winter that the coconut oil does not clog my pores. It has cleared up the marks that were once on my face, and evened out my skin tone while leaving my skin clean and soft. While applying coconut oil on my face I also noticed that it strengthen my finger nails, eye lashes and eye brows. ( Read more on the benefits of coconut oil here: BENEFITS OF COCONUT OIL ) Shea Moisture's problem skin facial mask is an ash colored mask that I apply to my face twice a week before bed. I allow it to dry on my face for approximately 5 - 8 minutes before washing it off with luke warm water. The facial mask does help to remove black heads and clear my pores, I found that after using this facial mask my face is left dry. Applying coconut oil after using the mask does help to restore moisture to the skin. I do advise that you follow the instructions on the jar. I recently found Shea Moisture's facial wash and scrub, I have been using it on my face once a day. I love this facial wash and scrub because it has small scrubbing beads that aren't overwhelming unlike in other face scrubs. The facial wash and scrub also leaves my face feeling fresh and moisturized and after a week of using the Shea Moisture facial wash and scrub, I have not used the problem skin facial mask and my skin tone is more even and free of pimples. I know it's easy to recommend that I drink plenty water and clean my makeup brushes once a week to avoid pimples however, I have done this for many years, I am vegan and my daily water intake is usually 96 fl ounces. I have always struggled with pimples and so have the large majority of females in my family. I do believe that had it not been for my diet and lifestyle then my acne would be far worst.
